EnergyShield® Plus Exterior Sheathing - Wall Insulation

EnergyShield® Plus is the most cost effective, energy efficient exterior sheathing material available in the marketplace. R-values range from 3.0 to 21.7, depending on thickness. EnergyShield® Plus offers several “green” qualities, including zero Ozone Depletion Potential (ODP) and zero Global Warming Potential (GWP) due to Atlas Blowing Agent Technology. When properly installed, EnergyShield® Plus wall insulation will provide added insulation and exterior sheathing, while yielding immediate energy savings in both Commercial and Residential applications.

EnergyShield® Plus is manufactured with non-reflective trilaminate facers (foil-kraft-foil) on the top side and a trilaminate or solid foil facer on the unprinted back side. EnergyShield® Plus can help meet or exceed the Model Energy Code, (see ASHRAE Standard below) and is available in a variety of thicknesses.

Exterior sheathing is a layer of fiber materials applied to the outer studs, joists, and rafters of a building to strengthen the structure and serve as a base for an exterior weatherproof cladding.

Atlas polyiso has been tested for VOC and formaldehyde emissions, in which reported emissions were below the maximum emission levels allowed under both the GREENGUARD and GREENGUARD Schools and Children criteria. These tests confirm that Atlas polyiso insulation systems are all very low-emitting products.

EnergyShield® Plus Applications

For specific information about all Atlas Sheathing applications, please download the Atlas Insulating Sheathing Installation Details. EnergyShield® Plus is typically specified for:

  • Exterior Wall Applications
  • Fire Resistant Wall Assembly (1 Hour)
  • Insulated Crawl Space (Must be covered by a 15 minute thermal barrier)
  • Interior Insulation Slab on Grade
  • Interior Insulation Under Slab
  • Cavity Wall/Masonry Insulation
  • Metal Stud Wall Applications
  • Re-Siding Applications
  • Stucco Applications (Hardcoat)Continuous Insulation

The current International Residential Code calls for continious insulation or insulating sheathing in certain zone climate zones. These requirements will likely be increased and or extended to other climate zones. The next IRC will require the installation of a layer of continuous insulation over the entire edition exterior of walls of many one and two family dwellings. This requirement will provide for a “thermal break” and added R-value to the structure - making the building much more airtight and energy efficient, as compared to current and past required construction. Atlas can help you meet these needs with our versatile line of wall insulation products

Water Resistive Barrier System

EnergyShield® Plus is a component of a wall system recognized as a Water Resistive Barrier by the International Residential Code Report #ESR-1375. See the WRB Tapes and System page for more information.
