The Project Engineer will play a key role in partnering with manufacturing plants and other members of the division in leading the installation of capital projects on time, on budget, and with zero injuries to Atlas employees or contractors.
Provides leadership and project management in manufacturing plants to improve product quality, equipment uptime, and line utilization.
Plans, schedules, conducts, or coordinates detailed phases of the engineering work in a part of a major project in or in a total project of moderate scope.
Works with plant engineering and maintenance departments to develop preventative maintenancep rocedures and programs for the facilities and process equipment of the company.
Oversees the installation of major mechanical and electrical equipment.
Supervises and directs outside contractors in the facilities when they are working on capital projects.
Helps train and develop programs for the plant maintenance and engineering departments.
Works with process,quality,production,and manufacturing personnel to develop process changes that are necessitated by new technology or working to improve current technologies.
Independently performs most assignments with instructions as to the general results expected. Receives technical guidance on unusual or complex problems and supervisory approval on proposed plans for projects.
50-75% travel required.
5 years of experience in project management of plant engineering.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge an experience in project management including writing scope and cost estimates, contractor bid packages, evaluating vendor proposals, and preparing Capital Appropriation Requests for approval.
Strong project leadership skills and ability to manage projects through to completion.
Ability to lead change through influence and without having direct line leadership of the team.
Strong verbal and communication skills.
Strong analytical skills and problem-solving skills to quickly assess situations, develop appropriate solutions, and manage execution.
Able to utilize data and data collection systems for problem-solving and decision-making to eliminate manufacturing losses and unnecessary costs
Strong planning, resourcing, and delegation skills.
Expected travel is 50-75%. Work may include weekends or holidays to minimize production downtime. May be on site to manage large projects for extended periods of time.
Strong knowledge of motor control, programmable controllers, instrumentation, feedback control systems, control system networks, and supervisory computer and data acquisition systems.
Familiarity with pneumatics, hydraulics, control valves, and servo systems.
Exceptional knowledge of process equipment and the proper operation of this equipment.
Education, Licenses & Certification
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering field; or, related degree with fifteen (15) years of experience
Office location can be at Meridian or Atlanta corporate office, or any manufacturing facility in Shingle & Underlayment division.
