Primary Responsibilities

The Sr. Payroll & Tax Accountant is responsible for corporate payroll accounting as well as supporting field payroll administration for the company’s manufacturing plants.  Responsible for the audit of all Salary US and Canadian payroll and transmission of direct deposit, taxes and retirement ensuring that deadlines are met and data is accurate. Plus, ensures accuracy and completion of all post payroll activities, taxation, and other related tasks, including prioritization and resolution of complex processing issues.

Payroll related responsibilities including but not limited to:

  • Mexican tax submission
  • Garnishment funding
  • WSIB, Worksafe BC & EHT tax submission
  • USD W-2’s and CAN T-4’s, tax related accounting and reporting as well as a variety of general accounting tasks, including month-end, quarter end, year-end close account reconciliation, Y/E Sui Rate Updates, preparing various internal and external reports, providing payroll data for various reports/calculations and special projects as needed.
  • Responsible for all payroll tax deposits/filings for both USD and CAN payrolls including test and implementation tax updates to PeopleSoft payroll as well as PeopleSoft functional updates and enhancements.
  • Partners with the Corporate Controller on the GL Interphase Implementation Project in PeopleSoft
  • Annual Workers Compensation Estimate calculation
  • Miscellaneous reporting as required
  • Assist with training the Payroll Specialist and HR Manager in all pre & post payroll procedures.
  • Back up processor for Atlas Salary US and Canadian Payroll
  • Assist in the maintenance of payroll and related records recording the accumulation and use of vacations, holidays, sick days, and miscellaneous leaves of absence for processing.
  • Record keeping and processing activities, include computing wage and overtime payments, calculating and recording payroll deductions, processing requests for paycheck advances, and processing terminations.

Experience

  • 5+ years' experience in accounting and/or payroll administration
  • Manufacturing payroll/tax accountant experience preferred
  • Excellent computer skills are required with high proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, specifically Excel
  • Working experience using an ERP computer system is beneficial.  
  • PeopleSoft version 9, Kronos and ADP experience preferred
  • Self-initiative and excellent analytical skills required.

Education, Licenses & Certification

  • A four-year degree in accounting from an accredited college or university.

  • Knowledge of payroll principles, practices, regulations and procedures
  • Knowledge of applicable state and federal payroll and related tax regulations, legislation and guidelines including, but not limited to: writs of garnishment, child support and levies
  • Ability to manage complex and competing priorities, attentive to detail and highly organized
