¡Estamos Agradecidas por Ti!

In 1968, President Lyndon Johnson enacted Hispanic Heritage Week to celebrate the cultures, histories and contributions of American citizens with ancestors who came from the Caribbean, Central and South America, Mexico and Spain.

Twenty years later, President Ronald Reagan expanded the weeklong observance to a monthlong celebration, which begins on Sept. 15 each year, marking the anniversary of independence for Latin American countries Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua from Spain in 1821.

The month also includes Mexico’s and Chile’s celebrations of independence on Sept. 16 and Sept. 18, respectively, as well as Día de la Raza, which is observed on Columbus Day (Oct. 12) — in lieu of the controversial explorer — to honor the people, cultures and traditions destroyed by European colonization.

Diversity in Roofing

Atlas is blessed to have many amazing Latino and Latina members in our roofing family, including many of our contractors.

In fact, about one-third of roofers are Hispanic or Latino/Latina, accounting for 30% of all roofing professionals.

“Roofing has the highest percentage of Latino and Hispanic workers in the construction industry as a sector,” according to The Center for Construction Research and Training, with Arizona, Nevada, Texas, California and Florida being home to the largest populations of workers.

¿Sabías?

Because the Hispanic community is such a large part of our industry, we offer Spanish-language versions of our product brochures and installation instructions. In addition, part of the Atlas Roofing website and many of our YouTube videos are available en Español.

Last year during Hispanic Heritage Month, our marketing operations specialist, Claudette Marchena, chatted with some of our Spanish-speaking ProForce sales reps, who shared favorite things about their heritage.
