Celebrating National Hug Your Dog Day

"Dogs are not our whole lives, but they make our lives whole."

Roofing work often stretches from sunrise to sunset, which is why it’s important to take a step back and appreciate the simple things in life — like our dogs, who greet us with their wagging tails and make us feel like rock stars just for walking through the door.

That’s why we’re celebrating them on April 10 — National Hug Your Dog Day!

Our canine companions don’t care what we look like or judge us for our mistakes. They don’t mind if we’re messy or if we snore. They don’t ask questions or offer unsolicited advice. They just give us their unconditional love, asking for nothing in return (maybe with the exception of an occasional treat or belly rub).

So, give your precious puppers some extra love today (and every day) to show them that the feeling is mutual!

And check out some of the adorable faces some of you shared on our Facebook page:

Chad and Amy Strander’s beloved pack of Goldies is often featured in ads for their company, Strander Roofing & Seamless Gutters in Lodi, WI. They say Zeus-Zeus is the oldest and most talkative member of the crew, Kona-Kona is the enthusiastic office greeter and baby of the bunch, Peaches-Peaches is always happy to see people at the office, and Cia-Cia, who never misses a day at the office, takes it upon herself to retrieve the company’s mail every day.
Guess which Atlas shingle color Shadow DeBolt, whose dad, Ryan, owns Combover Contracting in Omaha, NE, prefers? Black Shadow, of course! (This beautiful, dark, neutral shade is available in our StormMaster® Shake, Pinnacle® Impact and Pinnacle® Pristine lines.)
Have questions about Atlas shingles? Ask Nino Malick, whose dad, Ryan, owns Malick Brothers Exteriors in Pittsburgh, PA, for his woofing recommendations!
Walter Saharsky, whose dad, Paul, owns H and S Roofing in Green Bay, WI, just turned 3 years old and has been the shop dog since he was 8 weeks old. His dad says he’s living the Asphalt Life every day!

  • The Labrador Retriever was America’s most popular dog breed for 31 years — longer than any other (until 2023, when it was succeeded by the French Bulldog).
  • Much like a person’s fingerprint, a dog’s nose print is unique.
  • Seventy-five percent of people sign their dog’s name on their holiday cards.
  • Yawning is contagious for dogs too.
  • Human blood pressure goes down when petting a dog — and so does the dog’s.
